Brown Campus & Stadium Tour

While in Providence following the TulaneArmy game in West Point, I had a chance to stop by Brown University. Its football stadium, located about a mile from campus in the middle of a residential neighborhood, is old-school Ivy League at its finest. The trapezoidal shape of the main grandstand alone is enough to give it a grandfatherly jewel-box look, but the track circling the field only adds to the impression of a stadium from a bygone era.

Brown Stadium opened in 1925 and seats 20,000, although portable bleachers have been brought in at times to increase capacity to as much as 33,000.

Unfortunately, despite trying to pull a GFedGoCrazy to find an unsecured entry point, the stadium fencing was locked up around the entire perimeter and I didn’t feel like hopping the fence. But I did snap a few pictures of the exterior.

I also had some time to explore the main Brown campus and surrounding neighborhood:

Ruth J. Simmons Quadrangle
College Hill neighborhood (Thayer Street)

Here’s an additional gallery of campus buildings, featuring a variety of architectural styles … and a couple photos of me with bear statues.

I hope to make it back to Brown for a game in the future, but until then, this was a nice preview of Rhode Island’s lone Ivy League institution.
